all right guys so i'm out here in seattle visiting the grandparents and my grandma's break for squeaking she uh she told me she went to honda and they wanted charger about 400 bucks to change her front brake pads i said grandma let me take care of you don't worry about it i went to o'reilly's picked up uh some 60 brakes i went and got their loaner tool to be able to compress the piston and uh we're going to take care of grandma all right so in that process i'm going to show you guys how to change the brakes on a 2018 honda accord and it should be the same process whether you got the hybrid the 1.5 2.0 and uh like a 19 18 19 20 21 22 should all be the same let's get to it all right so first things first we are going to be lifting up this car and uh the ground is not exactly you know flat and smooth it's got a little bit of cur a little bit of curves a little bit of inclines so it's a good practice to go ahead and chalk off your wheels so we had just little blocks of wood we were laying around so i went and chopped that off and the parking brakes applied so you want to make sure that too this is a front-wheel drive and we're going to be changing just the fronts today all right first things first we're gonna jack up the car and remove the tire all right if we're not using power tools you're gonna have to loosen the lug nuts before you lift up the tire all right 19 millimeter does it and let's loosen them up [Music] all right with the tire removed this is how it looks we're going to be removing the caliper it's got two bolts one here and one down here those are 14 millimeters and we're gonna start removing them now all right so we have some new hardware that we can install right so we got to remove the old hardware easy flat screwdriver and just pry it up there you go that one's out and you just press the new one back in place of the old one there you go that one's installed same thing for the top get a little flat screwdriver and just pry it off comes right off new one put it back in place there we go so we went ahead and picked up a little synthetic brake grease these things are good because when you're installing the new brakes any part where metal contacts metal such as on the brackets you want to put a little bit of grease on them all right so just take with your finger place a little bit down there now i could place a little up top here there we go slide our new brake pad in push it all the way up and do the same thing for the back side there you go remember this part went up top and you slide them back in all right since uh i'm not at home i'm using some renter o'reilly's tool which is good if you don't have your own set go to riley's run this out they take a deposit they give you your money back when you return it so the way i'm gonna set this one up is we're gonna need to compress the piston right so i'm gonna take this i'm gonna move the backing plate along here so i'm gonna set it here like that put it here like that and i'm gonna find the one that fits the size of the piston and just tighten this and i'll push and and it'll push the piston back into place all right we're over here on the other side filming because it uh the camera cut off when we're compressing the piston so let me show you we have this set up and we have one that matches the size of the piston we're gonna put the little two dabs two uh dots in but uh line it up and so as we twist right here is going to push the um brake caliper and it's going to push the brake caliper or the brake piston in so you see as i'm twisting it's pushing the piston inward all right and you want to just keep going until the piston sits flush so just keep going keep going right about there see that distance flush so we could go ahead and back this off and lift right out and you see the piston is flush and with the piston flush we go ahead and reinstall with the new brake pads so go ahead and slide it on you might have to push these pins inwards to slide it on so once you get those lined up thread your bolts once you get those thread your bolts get one started get that one started cool there you go and just like that we got new brake pads saved grandma some money and uh saved her a trip all right that's it nothing nothing too much complicated you guys could do it yourself change the brakes on these honda accords are relatively easy nothing too difficult if you guys are interested this is the brake pads we ended up using import direct here's the part number we picked them up from o'reilly's just down the street if you guys got any questions or comments leave it down below underneath the video you
